Summary: IT DOES NOT GET NAY BETTER THEN THIS!!!!
Comment: OK!
First and formost for me. I had no problems drop and dragging folders from my PC to this unit. Get this! My folders showed up as one of the choices in the menu besides artist, album, etc....The sound! Well! The earbuds that come with the unit are very good. However, I have a pair of new high end earbuds from Shures (Shure 530) and Westone (OM3). Personally, I enjoy the Westone 3's. In anycase, Sony has done a fantastic job constructing this unit especially the EQ which I use on manual. All in all, coupled with the earbuds and this is just by subjective opinion, its a great sounding unit. But, isn't the SOUND the reason we spend the money? Did I neglect to mention the rechargeable battery? Once the unit is charged the battery life seems to go on and on and on! Oh! One last comment, the Jpeg images are very good. So! If you want great sound, buy this unit. If you want something for the gym, buy this unit. If you want an MP3 player that will retain a charge from New
York to Maui and back, buy this unit.

Summary: Sony NWZ-A729 Awesome MP3 Player!
Comment: First of all, I want an MP3 player to play music and do it well. Anything else, (video, pictures, etc) is a bonus. This player is absolutely the audiophile's MP3 player. The audio is simply the best. I've owned or have used many of the other brands (Sansa, iPod, Zune, etc), and none compare to the Sony Walkman. Some of the audio features, like the customizable equalizer, Dynamic Normalizer, Clear Stereo, VPT, and DSEE give the listener control over the audio. Also, the interaction with Windows Media Player makes it so easy to use, and gets away from the hinderances of iTune and Zune.
The earbuds supplied with the player are top-quality. Again, I've tried many different earbuds, and these are by far the best packaged with a player. They're comfortable and have excellent audio response, rivalling mid-priced over-the-ear headphones. You won't want to replace these.
When I downloaded a free music video and loaded it on this player, I was absolutely amazed at the video quality. It is truly as good as my home TV. This shouldn't have been surprising, since Sony is known for it's video technology. Coupled with the audio, it makes me want to rip some DVDs for watching while traveling. Photo quality is excellent as well.
Bottom line, excellent audio and video, ease of use, coupled with a massive storage amount. What more could you ask for?

Summary: Beware: Merchants selling wrong models
Comment: I ordered from one of the non-featured merchants and got the wrong player- the older model that is now selling for much less. I inquired with another merchant whether they are selling the actual one advertised and they said: "If its not the right one you can always return it", clearly indicating that they do not have the right one.
Watch out!

Summary: The BEST AUDIO MP3 PLAYER! Hands Down!
Comment: This Sony is the best sounding device!!!
...the best Ive heard and Ive heard many! I have tried several mp3 players to replace my ipod classic and escape the itunes/zune library limitations. The following players I have actually taken out of the box and tested before returning and making a final decision. ---Here it is:
Sansa Fuze: respectable sound, ok screen, ok quality (clickwheel is flimsy), great value, expandable memory - cool, easy-to-use...
Sansa Clip: similar to Fuze, awesome low maintenance high value workout companion, extremely simple and low cost
Creative Zen: Great idea, features, potential yet COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE
New Sony Walkman (smaller newer version): Awesome quality, sound, smaller size, fm tuner yet volume not as great and audio options not as many.
If your not particular in audio quality and want bang for the buck, get a Sansa. It is simple to use, cheap and functional.
If your in for a gamble, try the Creative Zen. Its a great player that may or may not work.
If your in for an mp3 player with KILLER sound, beautiful screen, easy-to-use, quality construction/expensive feel, good reliability and want something other than an Ipod that gives you drag and drop freedom, take this particular Sony.
I purchased a Sansa Fuze 8gb on Black Friday for only $60. I then saw this player and decided to order it. I was debating which one I wanted; the Sony was said to have awesome sound and the Sansa was also said to have respectable sound but greater functionality/options - plus I got an awesome deal on it. When I tested both players out, I came to the conclusion that the sound quality on the Sony was so much better than the tradeoff offered by the functionality/value of the Fuze that I returned the Fuze. There is a definite difference in sound quality! If you care most about the way music SOUNDS, get this Sony!
The other, newer, smaller Sony (NWZ-S738FBNC)is also a great player, which I have noticed to be a more sleek and durable improvement over the model I am reviewing now. The reason I chose to buy the larger version(NWZA729BLK)is because this one has a louder maximum volume, more audio adjustments including various surround sound settings and more space for music. IF the smaller version had a greater max volume and more space, perhaps I would have chosen IT but it doesnt, so I bought and recommend this player.
Hitting the other notes of this player:
I really dont use the screen for videos so I cant say anything about that here although it must be said that the screen has great resolution.
The only so-so item on this player is that larger picture files appear somewhat pixelated (though not distorted) when fitting on screen and (only) the hold button felt a little flimsy.
The verdict is still out on battery performance; so far its been good.
I hope this helps you guys! What will help you guys even more is this piece of advice: purchase this item ASAP as it seems to be slowly on its way out...and Walmart sells this 16gb version online for an everyday price of only $150!!!

As you can see above I think pretty highly of almost every aspect of this product. There are a few things that I think are wanting. One is that you can't modify files from within the player. You cannot delete or rename or organize files at all. I think the most important here is the delete capability. I don't think it is too much to ask that we can just remove songs. When you have 8 gig of music and you just move things into your file library you may not like some of them and you probably haven't listened to everything.
A HUGE thing I think that needs to be changed is expansion capability. There is no way to increase the players capacity. I would have to buy another mp3 player if I wanted a larger capacity. Why not allow for microSD or SDHC capacity? I can tell you why... they want you to buy another mp3 player. BAD SONY!
It also rebuilds the library every time you plug it in and remove it from your computer, but it only takes about 30-45 seconds.
I would like to comment on a positive though: this thing is very slim and sturdy. It is built very well and fits easily in to small spaces.
I would recommend this player if you can get it for 100 bucks like I did at the moment. Next year I would say this player needs to be about 50 bucks though. They are just getting too good with making them smaller and adding features and it lacks on the features in my opinion.
